Aerodynamics and Weight: A Perfect Balance in the Tarmac SL7 Comp

Aerodynamics was a top priority in the development of not only the Tarmac but all Specialized race bikes. Nonetheless, weight is also essential for the best race bike. In the past, aero bikes always sacrificed weight as they reduced air resistance. In developing the new Specialized Tarmac SL7 Comp, we aimed to achieve a frame that was at or below the UCI weight limit out of the box without sacrificing aerodynamics. With the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, finite element analysis, and the best engineers in the industry, we were able to create a frame that weighs just 920 grams without compromising aerodynamics, stiffness, or ride quality.

The perfect balance of front and rear-end ride quality makes it comfortable for long days in the saddle, all without compromising the Tarmac’s legendary handling and race-winning agility.

Streamlined Cockpit for the Tarmac SL7 Comp

Leveraging the experience gained from developing the Venge, the new Specialized Tarmac SL7 Comp cockpit is simple and uncluttered, fast, and highly adjustable. It’s aerodynamic while allowing for any setup, whether mechanical shifting, a traditional stem, or a round bar. These attributes make the new Tarmac easier to service and assemble/disassemble for expeditions. Ultimately, the result is a cockpit that’s fast and easy to use.
