Aerodynamics Meet Featherweight Design

While aerodynamics were central to the Tarmac’s development, weight was the crucial copilot on this journey to create the optimal race bike. Previously, “aero bikes” always accepted compromises with weight. The more drag you reduced, the more weight you gained.

Zero Compromise Performance

With the new Tarmac, our design philosophy was simple: keep the bike at, or below, the UCI weight limit out of the box, while sacrificing nothing for aerodynamics. With the help of the FreeFoil Shape Library, tools like isotropic FEA analysis, and some excellent engineering, we delivered a FACT 9r frame that weighs a mere gram. Crucially, we achieved this without giving up a single gram of aero efficiency, stiffness, or ride quality.

Rider First Engineering and Integration

The Most Balanced Tarmac Ever

We continued our quest to develop the perfect race bike using our Rider First Engineered philosophy. This ensures the new Tarmac is the most balanced, best-handling Tarmac yet, regardless of the size. We gathered the world’s best test riders from our three World Tour Teams. They provided feedback over thousands of kilometres. Consequently, we precisely balanced the ride quality between the front and rear ends. This means even the longest days in the saddle remain comfortable, all without giving up the Tarmac’s legendary handling and race-winning responsiveness.

Clean and Easy Integration

Building on the learnings from the Venge, the new Tarmac uses simple integration to create a clean, fast cockpit that is easy to manage. For example, we improved the routing for any configuration, mechanical shifting, traditional stems, round bars, etc., while keeping its aerodynamic attributes. These traits also make the new Tarmac easy to work on and easy to travel with.
